Hello and congratulations on your engagement!
For those who haven’t met me in person or have received my contact information from a friend, I’m Maria Morris. I’ve been designing beautiful floral arrangements for over 10 years and have styled more than 100 weddings and events. I started my floral career at Mary M’s Flowers and Plants in Bloomington, Indiana. I left the hectic floral shop life in October of 2001 to take a full-time, graphic design position at Indiana University. Since then I’ve freelanced wedding flowers as a side venture.
After leaving Mary M’s, all my clients have come to me via word-of-mouth recommendations.
I only take one wedding or event per weekend, so my availability is limited. I am not a flower shop. I’m just a talented designer working out of my home with the help of my awesome friend, Kelly Murphy. Kelly and I met at Mary M’s in the early fall of 2000, and have been thick as thieves ever since. Kelly’s design skills been invaluable for nearly all the large-scale weddings and events because two hands are better than one (or four and two, as the case may be.)
Floral shops and websites seem to be fond of the “package” wedding. I don’t do package weddings. I’m an artist not a grocery store. If you are looking for a cheap solution to the high cost of flowers, then a floral shop or website package may be a great solution for you. Again, I’m an artist. As every bride is different, every wedding or event is different. I’ve often used similar methods for arrangement, but no two weddings are ever the same. And I treat each wedding as a unique and artistic endeavor.
It is nearly impossible for me to quote prices over the phone or from one email. Flower prices fluctuate seasonally and yearly. To get a feel for your style, personality, budget, likes and dislikes, I recommend an initial consultation. This can be done in person (which is my preferred method) or through a few emails. I have a consultation fee of $50, which includes one floral quote (or write-up, as I call it.) If you decide I’m a good fit as your event or wedding florist, this $50 then becomes the deposit which secures your date in my schedule book. If you decide I’m not a good fit, this $50 pays for the consultation and my time.
My write-ups are extremely detailed. I include images of any flower I’m proposing to use, as well as lists of all flowers and supplies needed, descriptions of the intended arrangements for all people and locations, plus prices including flowers, delivery, set-up, and tear-down. Most flower shops do not provide this detailed a quote. To see a sample write-up, click here.
Please feel free to email me and arrange a potential meeting. Just click the “contact” link at the top and send me mail or click here. Again, congratulations and I look forward to discussing your big day.
