Professional Design
First, but not necessarily foremost, I consider my professional-self a graphic designer. I’ve had (and have) other titles like ‘visual communications specialist’, but I don’t need the formality. I prefer to be direct and to the point. Graphic designer seems to fill the bill. And since this is my website, I’m going to take the opportunity to be concise and call a spade a spade.
So here is a little about me, the graphic designer, in a nutshell. I’m a fast designer and great with deadlines. In the past ten years I’ve only missed one. Blame can be put elsewhere, but its needless. The project got finished, the client loved it, and overall the piece was better served with the additional time and attention.
I can and do think outside the box. Ugh. The box. Most folks are so squarely in the box that they’ve laid carpet and installed security systems. Really I just wanted to mention the “box” so I could make my little analogy. Secretly (well, not so secretly anymore) I hate when folks reference the box.
I’m a people-person. Geez, doesn’t everyone say this? Seems like they do. However, in my case, it really is true. I’ve taken a persoanlity test. It concludes I have woo. Woo-hoo. If you need an introvert (or a type-B personality,) I’m not your gal.
I try to be easy to work with. I do what I say I’ll do in the time I say I’ll do it (except that one time.) I’m direct and to the point, which can rub some folks the wrong way. If something is bothering me about a piece’s content, layout, or visuals, I say what I feel I need to say. I’m always a champion for the design. It is my preference to say what I mean and mean what I say. But (and here’s the but,) I know when to let it go. Some minds can’t be changed and I know when to move on for the sake of the sanity of all involved. Especially mine.
I’m an organized, detail-oriented person with a strong sense of color and balance. I am skilled in a variety of design media, both traditional and non-traditional, and have proficient and working-knowledge of several Mac OSX-based computer software applications. Yes, I am a Mac gal. Don’t try to convert me.
In addition to being an experienced graphic designer and floral designer, I am a working artist with a background in art history, gallery presentation, and visual merchandising. All my personal art involves classic cars. And for fun, I make sock-monkeys of all varieties. Click here to check them out.
